Edinburgh Sightseeing

Edinburgh Castle

A must see. Edinburgh Castle stands on Castle Rock, an ancient volcanic rock, and has served as a royal palace and garrison castle for centuries. See the Scottish crown jewels, visit famous rooms such as the Great Hall and St Margaret’s Chapel, and learn about the Scottish monarchs and garrisons who have lived here. Tip: always book your tickets in advance.

Old Town & The Royal Mile

Old Town is the district where most of Edinburgh’s tourist attractions can be found. The Royal Mile is its main street, made up of Castlehill, Lawnmarket, Canongate and High Street, and runs from Edinburgh Castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Along it you will find St Giles’ Cathedral, The Scotch Whisky Experience and the World of Illusions.

Palace of Holyroodhouse

A monastery was founded here by King David I in the twelfth century at the lower end of the Royal Mile. It grew into the main residence of the Scottish monarchs and remains the monarch’s official residence in Scotland. Highlights include the Great Gallery, the King’s Gallery and the Palace Gardens. Tip: check the palace website for opening times and ticket availability on your date.
